We believe that parents empowering one another is a great way to make our communities stronger and healthier.  Are you a parent interested in helping other new families?

HCCSO’s new scholarship opportunity seeks Parent Leaders interested in training and certifications to help all families be healthier. Find out more about the program and how to apply below.

We are excited to share a newly funded pilot project at Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon (HCCSO) that is designed specifically for parents, supported by Umpqua Health Alliance (UHA) Community Health Improvement Program (CHIP) funding. The primary goal of CHIP projects is to improve the health and well-being for people in our communities.

Our program will provide scholarships for parents who live in Douglas County to pursue education and certification in the following areas: lactation, infant massage, play group facilitation, parent education, infant safety seat installation, infant & child first aid/CPR, child yoga, and ASQ facilitation.

Each of these opportunities were chosen because of their positive impacts on the health and well-being of infants and their families. Our goal is to help parents increase their knowledge and future employment opportunities through their participation. We believe that these parent leaders will empower other families and build a stronger network of support for families in our region.

Our parent leaders will also help us increase community voice with our Perinatal Task Force. Scholarship recipients will participate in our meetings and help us make sure that the needs and concerns of families in our communities are represented.

The funding will be used to support ~15 parents in 2021. The first round of applicants will be chosen by committee in March with the second round in June. Any remaining funds will be awarded on an ongoing basis.
