To establish a cross-jurisdictional Regional Health Equity Coalition to advance policy, systems, and environmental changes that promote equity and address social determinants of health. The Coalition shall prioritize health disparities for underrepresented populations, with the strongest and most particular focus on racially and ethnically diverse communities, and how this intersects with people with disabilities, gender and sexual minorities (GSM), and income level. SO Health-E Work Groups
Each work group meets monthly (unless otherwise specified) to move equity work forward in Jackson County.
Works to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion in community institutions and organizations (health, education, social service, law enforcement, and government).
Policy & Advocacy*
Guides the Coalition in equitable decision-making and ensure that there is alignment with our guiding philosophies. We also identify opportunities for policy advocacy and civic engagement regarding health equity. *This group meets ad hoc (as needed).
Data & Sustainability*
Uses a data-informed approach to guide the Coalition’s equity work. *This group meets ad hoc (as needed).
Reproductive & Sexual Health
Seeks to reduce and eliminate disparities in teen pregnancy, reproductive and sexual health by performing an environmental scan to identify barriers and increase advocacy for evidence-based, comprehensive sexual education programs in order to improve access to comprehensive reproductive and sexual health services.
NEW! Community Engagement
Facilitates authentic community engagement through key partnerships with organizations to collaborate on events and activities. Provides leadership training opportunities for community members and engages communities and individuals working towards health equity. Helps inform steering committees by providing community voice and input to guide strategic priorities.
